Retired Teacher Married 3
My husband and I have been married 49 years and live in California. I was a teacher for 27 years and retired in 2020. I recently started substitute teaching at the high school in our little community and love it! We have three sons, one grandson, and four granddaughters. I was adopted and within the last two years have reconnected with my biological brothers and sisters. One of my biological brothers attended and graduated from TJ, we went to school together in junior high school and high school and  didn't even know it!  Send Teresa a MessageSend Teresa a Message

Written Dec 02, 2021

"It has been a long road for Bobbie and I. We did get married in 1976. I graudated from CU Medical School in 1978, and went to John's Hopkins in altimore for my general surgery residency. That included 1xyear doing research at MCV in Richard, VA and 5 months in Dublin, Ireland as a Vascular surgeon. I did my cardiothoracic training at Vanderbilt and stayed on the faculty there for 9 years.

I was persuaded to come to Colorado Springs in 1996 and stayed there until 2009. I then moved to join a friend in Kansas City. For the last 6 years I have been teaching Gerald surgery and medical students at the University of Missouri-KC school of medicine and at the KC VA Medical center.

I officially retired on October 1st. We are in the process of moving to our two homes. One my parents built is off the grid in Park County, CO, where we are now. The other home is near the beach on Whidbey Island in Puget Sound. I hurt my back a bit while trying to move and am stuck at our place near Como for the time being.

Bobbie and I have three children, Heather (38 y/o) teaches English to young ladies in Doha, Qatar, and recently married a member of the SWAT team and professional rugby player. Emily just turned 35 and works as a Physician Assistant for a large neurosurgery practice in Denver. Our son, Alex, is 32, lives near our home on Puget Sound and is still trying to figure things out. I will be back in touch with some pictures and more details.

Sincerely,

Jim and Bobbie Stewart

I met Anne the same year I graduated from TJ. After a short, whirlwind six-year courtship, we have been married 45 years, have four children and five grandchildren. I retired after working in Congress, the White House, the U.S. Department of the Interior, and an insurance trade association--all located within two miles of each other in Washington, D.C. Another common element in this work is that all demanded clear writing that I learned at TJ.

Anne was a pension and benefits consultant before she retired. We love retirement for the opportunities to be with family and friends, bike, travel, write, make stained glass lamps and windows, scuba dive (me), and knit (Anne). Though a high school Spartan, we have not been to Greece but have travelled to nearly every state and to other countries. We are empty nesters in the same four-bedroom house where we have lived in Arlington, Virginia for 41 years.

What have I learned since graduating from TJ? Days and nights may be long, but years are short. To paraphrase St. Paul, I count all things as loss as compared to the surpassing excellence of knowing Jesus Christ and eternal life awaits.

As a teenager, I never thought I'd have a 50-year marriage or a steady, long-term career--and I was right. I never had either one!

Instead, I've had a variety of husbands (Ron Johnson is my wonderful third one) and interesting jobs, including being a stay-at-home mom from 1978 to 1997 for two great boys, a garden consultant at a greenhouse, a supervisor of a Compliance department who tried to keep 5,000 Associates in line, and a 10-year caretaker of my pianist-mother who became happier as her Alzheimer's disease progressed.

I've also had my share of outstanding adventures. From street fairs, farmers' markets, plays, symphonies, and rock concerts to walks in the mountains, on the plains, near oceans, and in several states and foreign countries, I've found kind people, good food and rewarding vistas all around me. I've loved and been loved--I am grateful for my life.

I'm alive and well and living in Pittsburg, KS. I retired from Pittsburg State University where I was an Associate Professor in Special Education for 20 years. I won't be able to attend the reunion but I wish everyone well. Send Martha a MessageSend Martha a Message
